Obama pushes reform despite losses
Recent when criticized about having an appeasement style foreign policy president Obama responded "Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top al-Qaida leaders who've been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement,"
Surprising for a Democrat, but president Obama has had astounding victories in the foreign diplomacy, which includes the killing of top al-Qaida leaders and dealing firmly with countries like Iran and North Korea. Despite his good polling in foreign affairs and the killing of Osama Bin Ladin he has faced several losses as of late
-Not compromising with the republicans and allowing for the Bush tax cuts to continue
-Having his nominee for the recently constructed financial watch dog institution vetoed
-Allowing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to overrule a FDA provision to allow girls of any age to receive over the counter contraceptives
Euro on the rise after the EU summit
The European Union has a bright out look as of today. As everyone that watches the news is aware, Italy has recently falling into massive debt and is on the brink of financial catastrophe. To the EU's relief, Italy passed austerity measures which in turn caused a gradual increase in the Euro's value as confidence in the European market.
Why you should care
Financial analysts have forewarned against too much optimism since the market is still under the perception of vulnerability and the U.S. economy won't be affected too much. Overall, this is a good sign towards financial stability around the world and one that shouldn't be overlooked.
Barney Frank will not run in 2012
In the election of 1980, Barney Frank ran against republican candidate Richard A. Jones and won narrowly by the margin of 52% over 48%. That four percent difference would mean the world as Barney would go on to win an astonishing Ted Kennedy like 12 more elections and doing so as the first gay congressman (that we know of). Mr. Frank has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming 2012 election leaving the seat up for grabs and leaving a hole in the Obama Coalition.
Why you should care
Well, Mr. Frank has been the acting Chairman of the Housing Financial Service Committee and is responsible for developing a response to the $700 billion bailout proposed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson; plus he spearheaded the investigation on the Freddie Mac scandal. Without Mr. Frank, the Democrats will be losing a key member in their stronghold over economic regulation and could cause a shake up in the White house to find someone to replace him.
